The ‘Mercy’ arm of YWAM Toowoomba launched in 2016, with the purpose to meet spiritual and physical needs around the world. We recognize that art has the power to communicate what cannot always be communicated, and that artists possess an influence in this world. When we step up to the microphone, take a brush to canvas, get behind the camera and manifest truth, the world begins to listen.

AM4cYWAM Toowoomba has a strong call to South East Asia, specifically Thailand and Cambodia. In regards to advocacy, we feel called as a ministry to help support young girls that have been rescued from the sex trade industry (very common in these nations). In April 2015, we sent a DTS outreach team to Cambodia to work with ‘Destiny Rescue’, a group dedicated to rescuing children from the sex trade. The team returned with stories of redemption and lives transformed by the Lord; stirring our desire to partner with Destiny Rescue again.

In July 2016, we officially started a new initiative called Freedom Project. Since then, the Freedom Project team has gone into churches and markets, raising awareness about sex-trafficking, at risk children and families. They have talked about the issue of human trafficking and what our role is in combating and stopping modern day slavery in our generation. The Freedom Project partners with Destiny Rescue and other organisations to fund the rescues of children who have been forced into sex trafficking. Through street markets, events, social media, busking and talks to schools and youth groups, the Freedom Project team is slowly spreading awareness and raising funds to rescue at least 10 children ($15,000+) by the middle of 2018. You can find out more at Freedom Project’s website at https://freedomproject7.wixsite.com/freedomproject

Towards the end of the year, it became clear that God was wanting to expand our involvement in mercy ministry beyond sex trafficking, and the vision of Freedom Project. Sensing that 2017 would see the pioneering of more projects with a different vision, we decided to launch a team called ‘The Mercy Collective’. This acts as an ‘umbrella’ for all our mercy related projects at YWAM Toowoomba, and will allow us to branch out into new territory, as we serve and partner with more organisations such as Gospel for Asia and Rahab Toowoomba.outreach-phase-6

Long-term, we would like to see our own ministries established on the field, with a community of artists here in Toowoomba supporting and advocating for these ministries.

We are now accepting staff applications for anyone who has completed a DTS and is interested in serving with our ministry to see this vision become a reality. We’re incredibly excited about the possibility of partnering with you. If you have any interest, please register it below and we’ll be in touch.
